Sarah Lux, APIO
Sarah Lux earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Central Florida and a master’s degree in Public Relations from Full Sail University. Sarah has practiced Public Relations for 10 years, specifically focusing on community education, government affairs, and crisis communications.
Overview
This training focuses on the unique mental health challenges faced by Public Information Officers (PIOs) who respond to crises and manage difficult or negative public interactions. The session emphasizes the emotional toll of high-stress environments, prolonged incident response, and public scrutiny. Participants will learn strategies for recognizing signs of burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma. The training covers practical self-care techniques, stress management tools, and the importance of peer support and professional mental health resources. The session underscores the value of resilience and proactive mental health care in sustaining long-term effectiveness and well-being in the PIO role.
