A Comprehensive Guide to Special Education for School Leaders

Overview

This workshop is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of school administrators who wish they knew more about special education and related disability laws. With an increasingly diverse and high needs student population attending our schools, this course will assist administrators in becoming current in the areas of special education and 504 accommodation.

Topics presented in this 2 day workshop will include: an understanding of the laws governing special education, ADA and 504, managing discipline when a student has a 504 plan or IEP, practical behavior management strategies for students with significant disability related behaviors, conducting meaningful observations in co-taught and self contained classrooms, what to focus on when reviewing IEPs and 504 plans, how to help navigate contentious Team Meetings, understanding if and when out of district placements are appropriate, the challenges associated with parents’ rights and much, much more.

Every administrator must acquire at least 15 PDPs in special education as part of the licensure renewal process. As an approved DESE Professional Development Provider JGPR will provide you with the PDPs you need to meet this requirement.

The West Bridgewater Special Education 2 day class on June 2nd and 4th, will be held at: The West Bridgewater Middle/Senior High School in the Learning Commons, 155 West Center Street, West Bridgewater.
