Denise Laitinen
Biography
Born and raised on Boston’s South Shore, Denise Laitinen is an award-winning writer, instructor, and public information officer with more than 25 years of experience working alongside first responders in high-pressure environments. As the Public Relations Officer for the Hawai‘i Police Department, she manages critical communications and supports crisis response, bringing firsthand understanding of the demands placed on emergency personnel. Her background also includes 15 years in the fire service, with 12 years as Hawai‘i’s statewide Firewise Coordinator.
A seasoned educator, Denise has trained first responders, community leaders, and organizations in communication skills and digital messaging. Her national media experience, including appearances on BBC, Al Jazeera, USA Today, and the Discovery Channel, demonstrates her ability to perform under pressure with clarity and focus. Known for her practical teaching style, she helps first responders strengthen their resilience and maintain balance amid the challenges of their profession.
