Meet Active Duty Fire Chief and JGPR Academy Instructor: Rob Reardon

Biography

Chief Rob Reardon is a nationally recognized public safety executive and crisis leadership expert with more than 25 years of experience in the fire service. He currently serves as Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management for the Town of Duxbury, Massachusetts, where he leads a modern, high-performing department and oversees critical public safety operations, strategy, and organizational development.

Chief Reardon is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s prestigious Executive Fire Officer Program and the Massachusetts Fire Academy/Edward J. Collins Center Chief Fire Officer Program. He is an accredited Fire Chief in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, reflecting the highest standards of professional excellence and leadership in the fire service.

He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Mass Communications from Emerson College and Fire Science from Anna Maria College. His executive education includes the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI) at Harvard University, Columbia University’s Leading with Impact program, and the Naval Postgraduate School’s Executive Leaders Program, placing him among a select group of leaders trained at the intersection of crisis management, national security, and organizational leadership.

Prior to his fire service career, Chief Reardon spent more than a decade in Boston’s highly competitive media market as an award-winning photojournalist. His work has been featured globally across major television networks, national publications, and book covers, covering presidential visits, professional sports, high-profile legal proceedings, and major national events. This background provides him with a rare and valuable perspective on media relations, public perception, and strategic communications during high-stakes incidents.

Chief Reardon is widely sought after as a keynote speaker and advisor to both public and private sector organizations. His expertise spans crisis leadership, organizational resilience, media strategy, and high-performance team development. He has presented at premier national conferences, including the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC), one of the largest leadership forums in the world.

In addition to his operational leadership, Chief Reardon led the creation of the Regional Old Colony Communications Center (ROCCC), an $8 million regional 911 facility serving multiple communities. He successfully navigated complex political, operational, and interagency challenges to deliver one of the first centers in Massachusetts (outside of Boston) to directly receive wireless 911 calls an innovation that has significantly enhanced emergency response capabilities and public safety outcomes.

In 2023, he was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Massachusetts State 911 Commission, advising on statewide emergency communications strategy, policy, and system advancement.
