Three Goals of Effective Media Relations

JGPR Academy is able to better equip agencies with the tools needed to effectively communicate with the media and in turn, their constituents. Some of the goals of having an effective Media Relations plan include:

1. Media Relations builds strong relationships with the media and constituents

Your policies, values and goals are directly affected by your ability to communicate them, and the media can play a key role in that. In order to build strong and reliable relationships, you must have professional media content. This is important because our social media posts, views and opinions reflect on us and provide a version of our image for all to see.

2. Media Relations allows you to get your message out quickly and effectively

When informing the public with policies and missions, the facts are the priority. The easiest way to get the facts out to your community in the timeliest manner is through social media. A simple and expertly crafted social media plan can go a long way in communicating both positive messaging and during a time of crisis. Utilizing proper media relations can tap into numerous social media markets and begin positive conversations about your agency and expose your goals and successes to as many people as possible.

3. Media Relations can be cost-effective

Whether your agency is small, medium or large, media relations can be cost-effective. Something to know about media relations is it is typically not paid, it’s earned and the content has credibility. If you work well with media professionals you don’t have to spend as much money on marketing and advertising campaigns to get your products, programs and campaigns noticed. Another thoughtful idea to keep in mind is with proper media relations, you are practically advertising for yourself, because you aren’t trying to sell the content, just bring awareness to it.
